Karlsruhe Initiative for Talent and Development. We bring first-year students at KIT together with students from higher semesters of the same degree programme.
Why KITE exists
In our first semester, we would have liked someone who was already a few semesters ahead.
In your first semester, there is more information than you can sort through. Someone two or three semesters ahead knows what matters now, what can wait and what comes after your degree. With KITE, everyone in the programme gets exactly that kind of person at their side.
After about a month, most things are sorted, and other questions matter more: How do I study effectively? How do I write a CV? Many people have them at the same time. That is what the seminars are for: one hour, one topic, given by mentors or guests who know it well. Guests come as individuals, without advertising and without sponsor logos.

KITE in brief
- Who
- A student initiative, not run by KIT. We do not speak for KIT.
- For whom
- First-year bachelor’s students at KIT in the participating degree programmes. For one semester, someone from their 3rd semester onwards in the same programme supports them.
- Cost
- None. Mentors and the organising team are all volunteers.
- Data
- We do not pass any data on to companies or partners.
- Faculties
- Their mentoring programmes, such as Startklar or the one of the KIT Department of Informatics, help you get started with your studies. KITE adds fixed tandems, seminars and a look at what comes after your degree.
